When it comes to boudoir, you may not understand what the big deal is. But it seems there is a buzz about boudoir and some of your friends may have mentioned doing it themselves. Why on earth would you want to stip down to your undies or less and have someone take a photo of you? Is that really a thing? Well… yes, it’s definitely a thing and your friends probably had an incredible experience if they did it. Here are 5 facts about a boudoir experience with Provocateur Images that will shock you, and probably make you want this experience for yourself at my Toronto boudoir studio.

It’ll Be Way Out Of Your Comfort Zone

In all but the rarest of cases, my clients have never done ANYTHING like this before. Heck, many of them don’t even take a lot of selfies. For many people, a boudoir session at face value is downright terrifying because they have no idea how to pose and they feel that they make awkward faces when the camera is on them. These are all totally legitimate fears that I hear almost every time a new client signs on for a session as they explain to me that this is way outside their comfort zone. But, the thing is, I make the whole process easy. From tons of preparation documents to get ready, a pre-shoot wardrobe video call and then TONS of guidance and coaching at your session. When it’s all over, the compliment I hear all the time is, “that was way easier than I thought it would be!”

It’s Empowering

We live in a progressive, yet somewhat closed-minded society and most women don’t really feel completely alright with expressing themselves sexually. Boudoir is empowering because you get to be as sexy as you want to be. You get to say, “this is my body and I’m ok with it. It’s not what society thinks is perfect, but who cares. This is me!” I want you to step back for a second and ask yourself when was the last time you really felt sexy? For many of my clients, this experience is the first time they’ve truly felt sexy. Where they’ve felt ok with their body exactly as it is. Feeling sexy and loving yourself, for all your perfect imperfections… Now that’s empowering!

You Don’t Have To Be In Your 20’s Or A Size 2 To Do This

When you look at a lot of lingerie or boudoir inspired images you’ll likely see slender models who are in their 20’s and that can be intimidating because you might feel that is the expectation of how you have to look. I can say with certainty the only person you should look like is YOU! There is no measurement for what beauty is and some of the most magical boudoir sessions I’ve had are with clients in their 30’s, 40′ and 50’s. Women just like you that felt they had to look like they did when they were 20 and before they had kids but then realized that they look incredible right now. With professional, makeup, hair, pose coaching, lighting and photography, they saw that they could look every bit as good as anyone on the cover of a magazine.

It’s Not About Your Partner, It’s About You

It’s fair to say that boudoir makes an incredible, thoughtful and intimate gift and some of my clients come in to have a session so they can gift the images to their partner. That’s awesome! But boudoir is about you, NOT your partner. I mean heck, you don’t even need to be with someone to do this. An experience like this is an investment in YOU. As mentioned above, feeling empowered and positively seeing yourself are key elements. You might think most of my clients come in for a session to gift to their partner but the reality is that 90% of them come in to do it for themselves exclusively.

Once It’s All Over You’ll Want To Do It Again

That’s right, that person that felt terrified when walking in the door to my Toronto studio will say when it’s all finished, “I can’t wait to do this again!” This is pretty common and I’ve been shooting for 8+ years now and I’ve seen a fair amount of repeat business even though you might think this is a once in a lifetime thing. I’ve had clients originally come in for a bridal shoot, who then came back for a maternity shoot and afterwards a couples session. Sometimes, they come back for a new boudoir series to mark a new milestone with weight loss or a birthday. Whatever the reason, they come back because the boudoir experience I provide is so powerful and so much fun.

I hope to see you in my studio soon and show you what the boudoir experience feels like!
