Over the past few years shooting boudoir I’ve been very lucky to work with some incredible people and Holly Harlott is no exception. I first met Holly because she reached out to telling me she was a lingerie model that had access to some unique, fancy lingerie and was looking for a photgrapher to collaborate with. Since our first shoot, we’ve created a stunning portfolio of images (see below) at my Toronto boudoir studio. I recently decided to ask Holly some questions about what she does and give you a peek into the life of a lingerista. Holly will also give you a few tips on what to look for when it comes to lingerie.

Q: What got you into the world of lingerie?
I think it’s something I’ve always been interested in! I remember my mom dragging me to go bra shopping with her as a child and being fascinated by all the bras, the different shapes, colours, and textures. But this was department store lingerie, nothing particularly extravagant or luxurious. When I started doing pinup modelling, I noticed a lot of the models shot in lingerie, which I found intriguing. From there I became more familiar with different brands, especially those that specialized in vintage styles like What Katie Did and Playful Promises. I later got a job at a high-end bra fitting boutique here in Toronto, and that’s how I became immersed in luxury lingerie. The rest is history!
Q: What are the two most underrated features of great lingerie and why?
That’s hard to say! One thing about lingerie I think is underrated is the history of it. Nothing is new. Bralettes are hundreds, if not thousands of years old. But for the past while, they’ve been touted as some new invention. The same goes for 1/4 cup bras. The Underpinnings Museum is a great resource for those who are interested in the history of lingerie.
Aside from its history, I think the garterbelt is an underrated piece. There isn’t anything more beautiful than a three-piece lingerie set for me.
Q: So someone that doesn’t know much about lingerie, is about to have a boudoir session and she’s stressing out over what to buy. What would be a tip or two that would help her out?
You can’t go wrong with a classic black three-piece set with stockings and red lipstick!
Q: I’d imagine your lingerie collection is pretty incredible as you’ve been doing this for a while… Does your lingerie have its own apartment or at least it’s own room?
Well, thank you! I have definitely considered how much lovelier life would be if I had a closet just for my lingerie! But actually I am in the process of reorganizing my collection. Ideally I’d have a bin for bras, bottoms, suspenders, corsets, and stockings. But I don’t think I can fit that all in my closet! I’ll have to work it out.
