FlatteringPlus Size Poses & Styling TipsFor A Toronto Boudoir Photoshoot
Welcome to Provocateur Images, where we celebrate every curve and every body type. Plus size boudoir photography is all about embracing your unique beauty and feeling empowered, no matter your size. If you’re ready to step in front of the camera but need some tips to feel more comfortable and confident, you’ve come to the right place. Let’s dive into some expert advice on how to make the most of your boudoir session.
What to Wear:
- Confidence is Key:
- Wear something that makes you feel sexy and confident. Whether it’s your favorite lingerie or a cozy sweater, confidence is your best accessory.
- Support Matters:
- Choose outfits with built-in support, especially if you have a larger chest. This helps with posing and keeps everything in place.
- High Waisted undies:
- If you’re concerned about your tummy area, high waisted undies look amazing and cover that up.
- Bring Variety:
- Plan to shoot in at least three different outfits, but bring a few extras just in case. This gives you options and flexibility during the session. But we’ll talk more about that in your pre-shoot wardrobe consult.
- Heels and Accessories:
- High heels can add a touch of glamour and elongate your legs. Don’t forget other accessories like statement jewelry or a bold red lip.
What Not to Wear:
- Baggy Clothing:
- Avoid hiding behind baggy clothes. They can make you look larger and less confident in photos. The exception being the ever useful baggy v-neck sweater. That’s a look that will slaaaaay!
- Avoid Thin Straps:
- Thin straps can dig into your skin, so opt for pieces with thicker straps or no straps at all.
- Complicated Outfits:
- Simple is often better. Overly complicated outfits with a lot of straps can be difficult to work with and may not photograph as well.
Styling Tips:
- Comfort is Essential:
- The most important thing is to feel comfortable. If you’re not comfortable, it will show in the photos. Choose outfits that make you feel at ease and beautiful. That could be lingerie, it could be a baggy sweater.
- Highlight Your Best Features:
- Focus on what you love about your body. If you love your legs, show them off! If you have a great neckline, wear something that highlights it.
- Choose the Right Lingerie:
- Plus-size specific lingerie is designed to flatter fuller figures. Invest in pieces that fit well and make you feel amazing. generally speaking, outfits you find on Amazon and Shein that are not designed for fuller figures generally do not fit very well. I’d always advise going to a specialty store. It may cost a bit more, but you’re investing in a beautiful photo session so don’t compromise on your wardrobe.
Posing Tips:
- Accentuate Curves:
- Embrace your curves with poses that highlight your best features. We don’t aim to hide your body, but we will show you ways of accentuating all those gorgeous curves.
- Angles Matter:
- Posing at a slight angle to the camera can create a more flattering silhouette. Don’t worry, we’ll guide you every step of the way!
- Relax and Breathe:
- Believe it or not, breath work is a HUGE part of a boudoir session. At the start of each session we start with a breathing exercise that will put you at ease but also help you get the perfect expression.
- Use Props:
- Props can add interest and help you feel more comfortable. A piece of fabric, a favorite book, or even a piece of furniture can make great props and we’ve got lots of great props.
- Movement and Flow:
- Incorporate movement into your poses. A slight shift of the hips or a turn of the head can create a more dynamic and engaging photo. As we guide you through all the poses, you’re going to become more and more comfortable doing them and by the end, you’ll most likely even be able to do them on your own.
Preparing for Your Session:
- Consultation:
- Before your session, you’ll have a wardrobe consultation to review outfits and get styling advice. This helps ensure you’re fully prepared and confident on the day of your shoot.
- Hydrate and Rest:
- Make sure you’re well-hydrated and get plenty of rest before your session. This helps your skin look its best and keeps your energy up.
- Pamper Yourself:
- Treat yourself to a spa day or a new haircut. Feeling pampered and refreshed can boost your confidence.
