WHAT ARE THE BEST SHOES FOR A BOUDOIR SESSION?

You’ve selected the perfect lingerie for your Toronto boudoir session and now it’s time to pair it up with a killer pair of shoes… Ahhhh! But which shoes is a girl to choose?  We wanted to put together a helpful guide for you to select the right shoes so you look amazing in your session.

The first style of shoe we want you NOT to bring are wedges.

That, we can definitely tell you. Wedges are not your friends when it comes to a boudoir photography session in my studio. Why? Because wedges don’t show off the shape of your foot and therefore they become part of it. Think hoof… I know I know, it sounds a little extreme but it’s true! A wedge shoe is the ultimate hoof foot. Imagine, a woman in bootcut jeans that are just long enough to almost graze the floor in a pair of wedge shoes, and voila! Hoof foot. Don’t get me wrong, they are super cute and quite sexy in jeans but definitely not for your boudoir photography session.

Shoes to bring into the studio for your awesome boudoir photography session!

Shoes become part of your ensemble on the day of, so keep that in mind, and think POINTIER. It doesn’t have to be a stiletto, but it definitely has to be a heel. Chunky heels are okay depending on whether or not you’re going for a vintage look. So if vintage is your thing, chunky is great.

Generally speaking, pointer heels equals better. Closed toe or open toe, doesn’t matter. As long as you’re not wearing those open toes with stockings, as that is a no-no. Think of it this way, if you wouldn’t wear it out in public then you shouldn’t wear it in the studio. Stockings and closed toe? Perfect! See, this is easy!

As for colours and decorations, here is a quick breakdown.

Black shoes are the go-to as they work with most colours. Dominant decorations on top of a shoe and foot are generally not ideal, so no large flowers or ruffled lace. Keep in mind that if you are bringing in white lingerie for your boudoir photography session, red or white heels are the go to. Unfortunately neither black nor nude work with white.

  So here’s the short list:

    • Simple Pumps – Love em!
    • Platform heels – Love em!
    • Black is a go-to for pairing with most colours.
    • Nude works really well all coloured lingerie.
    • Don’t do black shoes with white lingerie.
    • White or red heel are amazing for white lingerie.
    • Silver works with white.
    • Gold with cooler blues and green. (Think of gold as yellow)
    • Overall match your shoes to your lingerie!

Final tip. If the bottom of your heels are worn out, you may want to consider a new pair of shoes. The bottom of the shoes probably will show up in the photos because you’ll be laying down and have your feet up in the air. Shoes with really worn bottoms are something you will not want to see.

Although your shoes may not be in the photographs, they are a big part of the process and of the final image. Why? Because heels not only make you feel sexy, they make you flex the muscles in your legs and your bootie sticks out an extra notch because of them. Heels weren’t built for comfort but they were built to make your legs and bum look good! So, match your shoes to your lingerie. Don’t forget the shortlist. And above all, don’t forget you won’t be walking far in those heels at our Toronto boudoir studio! A few steps if any around the studio is all.
